We love to get people interested in our sport! If you would like to see what paddling on a dragon boat team is all about, you can be a guest paddler. Get a feel for how the team works, discover the physical requirements of paddling, and see Portland from the river for two practices before you decide to join.
Practice Schedule and Attendance
RCP practices three days a week, two weeknight evening practices, and one on Saturday mornings. We ask that you commit to as many practices as possible. Practicing with a full boat gives us the opportunity to be prepared for upcoming races. While we are a recreational team, the reason we practice is to race! And, let’s face it – winning races is cool.
Paddlers with the highest attendance percentage are the first to fill the roster when it’s race time. Those with low attendance may be benched for races.
We participate in 4-6 race festivals during a season. Races are the reason that we practice and we are looking for paddlers who can commit to races. View our race schedule to see what a typical season looks like.
