What a way to kick off our 2015 racing season. The St. Martin’s University Dragon Boat Festival in Olympia, WA was a new endeavor for us. This festival is early in the season, earlier than we usually race. It is short 250 meter racing. Sprints, really, and not what we usually train for. Coach Beth called her first race. Betsy tilled her first race. A plethora of new paddlers experienced their first rush of race adrenaline. RCP is embracing change in 2015.
We kicked off the season with our 2nd Annual Team Retreat on Netarts Bay. The weather was unseasonably warm (unlike last year’s stormy weekend). We covered a ton of team business. But more importantly, we had a blast! Hiking at Cape Lookout, agate hunting in Oceanside, and a trip to the Tillamook Cheese Factory were just a few of the highlights.
Come join Rip City Paddlers for our 7th annual Skaryoke costume and karaoke contest! This event is our fall fundraiser which helps our dragonboat team pay for boat rentals, race entries, and team jerseys. We will be hosting this year’s Skaryoke event at Triple Nickel Pub. Doors open at 6:30pm and tickets are $12 advance purchase or $15 at the door. There will be karaoke and costume prizes as well as a 50/50 raffle and drink specials. This is a 21+ event.
Sometimes paddlers need time to be social outside of the boat, without waterproof gear and sweating. Luckily, happy hour exists.
Want to win a case of wine and bid on fabulous items from local businesses and artists? RCP can help. Please join us on First Thursday, May 1st, in the Pearl District for our 5th annual silent auction and wine raffle fundraiser event! Read on for a list of our generous auction donors.
It’s 2014 and our season is finally underway! We officially started in February, but, thanks to the unprecedented snow and ice storm that shut down the city for days, we missed several practices.
So, you’ve made your way to the Rip City Paddlers site and now you’re wondering, “What is this dragon boat thing that I’ve been hearing so much about?” or, “How can I get myself on one of those rad boats?” or, “Hey, I was searching for Portland Trailblazers memorabilia, how did I end up here?” It’s cool. We’ll answer all of your questions.
