Fees and Financial Responsibilities
Our annual membership dues are $125 and go toward practice and race entry costs. RCP hosts annual fundraisers to cover race entry fees and more, so your out-of-pocket expenses are minimal. We may also require a fully refundable deposit for out-of-town races to help ensure attendance. Transportation and lodging costs associated with out-of-town races are the paddler’s responsibility. (More information about races below.)
RCP is part of the DragonSports USA paddling club, who owns and maintains the boats and related equipment, and hosts the annual Portland Dragon Boat Festival. To paddle with any team in the DSUSA paddling club there is one-time membership fee of $40.
On race days we wear a team jersey, available in sleeveless or short-sleeves for $25.
There are PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) and paddles available on the dock for team use. Many paddlers opt to purchase their own equipment from an outdoors store once they decide to commit.
Races
RCP participates in 4-6 race festivals during a season. Some of our favorite races take us to Salem, the Seattle metro area, and Victoria or Vancouver B.C. There are also great races right here in the Portland metro area. Some races are two-day events, some are only one. Races that require travel are organized with financial ease in mind. We organize carpools, split hotel rooms, and bring food whenever possible. The most important thing to know about races is that they are FUN and a great time to bond with the team!
